🔥 IN DEVELOPMENT THIS WEEK

🤖 NVIDIA Simply can not be stopped

Nvidia's shares exceeded $1,000 for the first time in after-hours trading following a robust fiscal first-quarter earnings report that surpassed analysts' expectations. Nvidia's data center sales, driven by its AI chips, surged 427% to $22.6 billion. Notably, Meta's Lama 3 model used 24,000 of Nvidia's H100 GPUs. The company anticipates revenue growth with its new AI GPU, Blackwell, expected by Q4. Networking revenues also tripled, hitting $3.2 billion. Additionally, Nvidia’s gaming revenue increased 18% to $2.65 billion. Other smaller segments included professional visualization ($427 million) and automotive sales ($329 million).

Microsoft announces Copilot+ PC line

Microsoft is introducing "Copilot Plus PCs," a new branding for Windows laptops that come with built-in AI hardware and support across the OS. This initiative involves major partners like Dell, Lenovo, Samsung, HP, Acer, Asus, and Microsoft's own Surface line. These laptops will feature a neural processor enabling advanced AI capabilities, such as the "Recall" feature for creating a searchable memory of user activity. Launching with at least 16GB RAM, 256GB SSD, and neural processors, these devices aim to offer high performance and extended battery life. The first models with Qualcomm processors will be available on June 18th, with Intel and AMD models to follow.

😪 OPENAI BLUNDERS

OpenAI removes GPT-4o voice “Sky”

OpenAI has withdrawn an AI voice feature after it was compared to Scarlett Johansson's character in the film "Her." Scarlett Johansson's legal team intervened, voicing concerns about the unauthorized use of her likeness and the potential ethical ramifications. Johansson’s lawyers argued that the voice closely mimicked her without consent, prompting OpenAI to take immediate action. OpenAI emphasized their commitment to ethical AI practices and safeguarding personal rights. Find out more.

😪 OPENAI BLUNDERS

OpenAI Chinese token library is a mess

An article highlights a major issue with OpenAI's GPT-4o, where its Chinese token library is polluted with spam phrases related to pornography and gambling, making up over 90% of the longest tokens. This problem affects the model's accuracy, leading to hallucinations and poor performance. The issue stems from the lack of quality Chinese text data and insufficient data cleaning during training. Chinese internet data needed for training is often restricted by major companies like Tencent and ByteDance. This limited access forces reliance on low-quality, widely available content. Other AI companies face similar challenges due to the scarcity of accessible, high-quality Chinese data. The situation underscores the need for AI developers to invest in sourcing and curating better data. This is vital for Chinese-speaking communities outside China who depend on reliable AI services.
